Frequently asked questions about our escape rooms

If you’re looking for more information about our room escape games, you’re in the right place! Clock N Lock proudly offers the largest selection of unique, one-of-a-kind escape rooms in Kalamazoo. Below, you’ll find a number of frequently asked questions. If you can’t find the answer that you’re looking for, please reach out to us via our contact page.

An escape room is a group game where your team is placed inside a themed room filled with puzzles and intellectual games. Your goal is to complete the challenges together and “escape” the room before the 60 minute deadline.

No. The escape games at Clock N Lock Escape Room in downtown Kalamazoo are 100% about fun and teamwork. We like to say we are “Fun, Not Scary.” However, every escape room is different, so your results may vary at different companies in different cities. If you don’t want any scare factors, it’s wise to ask as many times you won’t know what is involved in your room escape until you are already locked inside the adventure.

Your team can buy tickets online here, and you will receive an email confirmation once you’ve completed the transaction. We will have your name on file and will be expecting you: no need to bring your ticket. Please plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to relax with your team and enjoy our second floor view overlooking the Kalamazoo Mall.

We have some rooms that may dance around themes that could be more appropriate for older teens, however, most of our escape rooms are suitable for those 12 years old and older. This is mostly because this is an intellectual team challenge and sometimes younger guests aren’t as practiced at working together, or as strong at puzzle solving. Also, general vocabulary and life skill knowledge is just a little less strong when you are younger. Having said that, we’ve seen 6 year olds have fun with their families in our rooms. In fact, having a diverse group of ages and experiences in the room with you can aid your team in solving puzzles faster, as long as you work together well. Please note: players under the age of 15 require a paid ticket adult in the room with them. For groups where players are under the age of 15, we require a ratio of 1 adult for every 4 children or teens in the room to ensure that the escape room is not damaged.

Out there in the world of the Internet, we’ve seen many escape room companies talk about how great they are for a first date. It’s certainly an intense way to get to know someone, but here at Clock N Lock Escape Room in Kalamazoo, we do not recommend escapes as a first date. Save it for your third date or, even better, it’s the perfect way to introduce a new partner into your friend circle. Being in an escape room puts everyone on an even playing field since they are all exploring the room and its secrets together for the first time, making it great for friends. But I repeat, if it’s a first date, and it’s not going well, it’s certainly not going to go any better if you are locked in a room for an hour and you have to escape the room before you can escape your date. It’s been done, but it’s not recommended.

We will have soft drinks available for purchase both before and after your escape, though no drinks are allowed in the actual room escapes. There are several fantastic bars and breweries in the area if your palette is more adult. Please keep in mind that escape rooms are a brain-teasing room adventure and alcohol is best reserved for celebrating after your escape.
